Question about axes.
Hey I am level 13 atm and I am displeased in well my take down ability with my axe. and well I can not seem to kill fast effectively I even crafted a sword to use sever/gash and i cant keep the target bleeding long enuff for my gash to work effectively... and well its annoying me currently I use
executioners and cyclone axe for adrenaline gathering. i just do not kill them fast enough before i myself die... i am currently leveling outside of gates of kryta and well those darn bog scales kill me everytime.......

the problem could stem from the fact that you are trying to combine skills from two different weapon lines. although this effort is admirable and the weapon switching might be enhancing your gameplay, this is a bit ineffective. sever/gash are sword skills. if you are placing your attribute points into axe mastery, sever/gash will have very ineffective duration times and damage.
my first suggestion would be to focus on just one weapon and see where that gets you.

Well at that lvl, you should have a majority of the attirbute points in ur weapon, try not putting anything into to ur second profession until later on,
example:
8 axe
6 strength
5 tactics
Make sure you meet your weapons attribute requirement, very important!!
The attribute points will determine the effectiveness of ur weapon!

If you use an axe I'd suggest having Strength your second highest attribute, when you crit on a normal hit for 40-50 damage I'm sure you'll smile, I sure did.

Mmmm, last I checked, Strength only applied to attack skills. Normal hits are not effected in any way by strength. In general, I find it best to go for a high weapon skill, as oposed to moderate weapon skill, and moderate strength.

I honestly prefer sword...
Just use Sever Artery/Gash (skip axe entirely) and whatever other sword skills you can grab...I like to play W/N for Sever, Gash, Vampiric Touch combo for great dps...I tend to skip tactics until late and go Sword/Blood/Strength (with that order of priority, it switches to Blood/Strength/Sword once sword reqs are done).
Likely your problem is because Sever with 2 attribute weapon distribution (axe/sword) is not lasting long enough for Gash to give a deep wound, and if it does to a DW, it won't last long enough.

Level 13 at GoK...what level are the critters you are fighting there? Higher than you? Perhaps go back and finish some quests to gain some levels.
Are you going out solo? If so you can expect the skales to kill a level 13, no matter what.
What armor do you have? What is the axe's damage? Are you using a shield?
Otherwise post the 2nd prof and skills used so we can give more advise.

maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it sounds like the OP wasn't happy with the axe so tried the same Bog skales with a sword INSTEAD and still ended up dying. Anyway, don't get discouraged by these nasty little guys. They are using Life Siphon and a few other curses to give you indirect dmg. which may be killing you quicker.
That being said. I use both an Axe and sword-not at the same time. Depends where I'm going, what I want to do and what kind of build I feel like playing with that day.
for the most part my axe set up is as follows
1. - I use an elite so you can try -
2. penetrating blow
3. excutioners strike
4. cyclone axe.
5. Healing breeze/bonettis
6. Vigorous spirit-great with cyclone axe!
7. balthazars spirit/ live vicarously
8. mending
now I don't carry a rez with henchies but If I'm in a live group then I drop 5 or 7 depending on what {E} I'm using.
Since you may not have an elite I suggest Dismember.
Weapon atrribute should be high as well as strength. At level 20 I like mine at 10 for the 10%armor penetration. So strength will help. Tactics will help you with bonettis and if you run mending AND Vicarously then bonettis will recharge your energy.
you crafted an axe- what is the dmg. what mods does it have? these things will also help. I use two- one vampiric and one sundering both extra damge while enchanted.
hope this helps

when i play warrior in pvp my weapon attribute is 16. always. now in pve you can mess around a little but your weapon is what does the damage. not strenght and not tactics.
im with 4runner. at level 13 dont worry about anything but weapon attribute. and don't give in to the hype with swords. they're fine and all but so are axes AND hammers.
dont give up on the axe. level 13 is a very young warrior.

Your skill selection is horrid...
Here's what every early game axe user should have come Gates of Kryta
7-9 Axe
3-5 Strength
Dismember
Executioner's Strike
If you moved too fast and didn't level up much, then that's your problem, but it's easy to be level 15 doing all the mini-quests right quick by the time you get to LA.
But without Eviscerate {E}, Dismember + Exe. Strike is the God of Death for the axe...

^^ Agreed. Dismember --> Executioner's Strike should be your main combo until you can replace Dismember with Eviscerate {E} late in the game.
I always run that 2-skill combo along with a 3rd axe attack (either Cyclone Axe, Axe Rake, Axe Twist, Disrupting Chop, or Distracting Blow, depending on the situation).

Although Swift Chop is weaker than Power Attack, for some ridiculous reason, I find myself doing more damage with it on average... Not sure why...
